Twitter, Facebook, YouTube…the social media frenzy is amazing in itself.  I recently wrote an article for Broker World magazine on how Facebook has helped me build my business and spread my message.  I had a fun time writing it as the editor laughed at me…she had to “edit” certain parts out!  I stumbled upon social media a little over a year ago as I was enjoying the sun while vacationing in the Bahamas.  In fact, here’s that video from the time spent with friends in the financial planning community @ the Cove, Atlantis resort :

To make a long story short, social media allows us a powerful medium to connect to people we would have otherwise never met in our whole lives.  There are people all over the world with similar interests, goals, and beliefs.  Social media just allows us the opportunity to come together, follow and encourage each other’s passions and really do life together, virtually!  The greatest part is when you can actually call one another up and it seems as if you have known each other your whole lives.  It really accelerates conversations from acquaintances, to friendships and for some, joint-venture partnerships.  I mean, it is really great to meet these friends in person while beforehand, you have only communicated with them via email, Facebook wall posts, Skype calls and Tweets!

I was genuinely surprised yesterday when one of the bloggers at the Huffington Post, @2morrowknight named me as one of their 16 Amazing Men on Twitter AND the Awesome Charities They Support.  The post states:

“Why he rocks: One of “The Money Men” of Chicago, Sapaula is a respected financial strategist, speaker, TV commentator and talk show host of Chicago’s Money Smart Radio. His favorite Twitter charity: @AmericanCancer. This nonprofit is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization with more than 3400 offices.”

Over the years, I have talked openly at my speaking engagements and radio shows about the first wealth being your HEALTH.  Many of our family members have passed away from this disease, my late Uncle Cris Sapaula, had lung cancer and passed away just a month ago.   I have been honored to educate listeners to discover ways to not only plan for retirement and never run out of money, but be able to give back to a charity they support.  The American Cancer Society has been THE leader in cancer research, awareness, support and prevention and I hope my work helps put a dent in the fight against this dreadful disease.

Thank you @2morrowknight for you allowing me to be part of this group of men and writing about our causes.  Thank you to the Huffington Post for being a leader in online journalism we all look up to.

Keep up the good work guys!

Your friend in Chicago,

Matthew Sapaula
